6 Healthy Habits for a Dazzling Smile

Achieving a dazzling smile is a constant work in progress involving a lifetime of care and healthy dental habits that go beyond just brushing every day.

Here is a list of 6 dental habits you should incorporate into your daily routine for health, shining teeth!

1. Never go to bed without brushing your teeth

All of us have grown up with the “brush twice a day” rule, yet a large number of adults continue to skip brushing their teeth at night. Establishing a nighttime routine that includes brushing your teeth helps remove the plaque and germs that build up on your teeth throughout the day.

2. Always brush properly

There IS a thing as brushing the wrong way. In fact, not brushing your teeth the right way is way worse than not brushing them at all. Take your time, apply the right amount of pressure, and move your brush in gentle and circular motions. This method of brushing has proven to be most effective when it comes to removing plaque.

3. Don’t forget to clean your tongue

Plaque build-up on the tongue is common and should not be taken lightly as it can lead to foul mouth odor and other oral health problems. If you want to skip the tongue cleaner, you can just use your toothbrush to clean your tongue every time you brush your teeth.

4. Floss like your life depends on it

Many think brushing twice a day means you don’t have to floss. But what many don't know is that flossing once a day goes a long way in keeping your gums healthy and removing tiny pieces of food or that may be stuck in your teeth. Flossing also stimulates blood flow in the gums, reduces plaque, and lowers inflammation in the area.

5. Drink more water

Water is your best friend when it comes to your overall oral hygiene. Experts suggest drinking water after every meal. This helps wash out the negative effect acidic and stick food can have on your teeth.

6. Reduce your intake of sugary and acidic food

Sugary food, tea, and coffee get converted into acid in your mouth that can eat away the enamel of your teeth, leading to major cavities.
